Using Neutrals in Styling a Foggy Beach Session

This family has become so dear to me! They are good friends of my sister in law and have become repeat clients ever since they moved close to our family homestead on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. This foggy day was so pretty and the Olympic National Park beach location is one of my favorites no matter the weather. Momma always does a great job styling their family and the neutrals here were just perfect for their beach session.

When deciding what to dress families in for this location I love to use the color rust.

The pants on their little guy, and mommas green dress was the perfect neutral. I really love beach locations for toddlers because there is so much to keep them entertained! Keep an eye out for the kelp he was playing with, so much imagination. Here’s another example of neutrals on this beach but on a sunny day. Both perfect!

Complimentary colors for a neutral color palette:

The use of greens and taupe is a favorite of mine. Keeping in mind the environment is always necessary. The beach is a great backdrop that goes with just about any color. Except neon. Please no neon.

I really love using the rocks at this spot as a backdrop. It makes almost a studio like backdrop and draws the eye to the family. The same for the beach and water when it’s overcast.

If you’ve never been to the Port Angeles area in Washington I highly recommend it! You can hang out at the beach, mountain, lake, and get great food all in one day!
