Hurricane Ridge Family Photography Sessions
One of the prettiest spots for a family session is a Hurricane Ridge family photo session. With mountain views, wildflower meadows, and lots of space for kids to explore it just can’t be beat. If you’re dreaming of family photos that feel more like an unforgettable adventure than a formal photo shoot, a Hurricane Ridge family session offers the perfect mix of epic scenery and relaxed, natural moments together.

Why Choose Hurricane Ridge for Your Family Photos
- Hurricane Ridge is like nowhere else I have ever been. I’m a little partial because I have deep family roots on the Olympic Peninsula but everyone who meets me up there falls in love!
- Everyone needs a trip to the Olympic Peninsula at least once! Hurricane Ridge is less than an hour drive from Port Angeles and makes a perfect way to commemorate a trip.
- Color: I love how Hurricane Ridge photographs. The blues and oranges from the mountains and sunset cannot be beat. If you’re looking for Olympic National Park wall art than look no further!
- This location is probably the least crowded of all my adventure session spots. I like to book midweek as well for that reason, but still we are often all by ourselves on the mountain!

Best Time of Year for Hurricane Ridge Family Sessions
Mountain sessions can be tricky with weather! I plan my annual Olympic National Park trip for the best possible weather in July. I’m usually staying at our family homestead nearby and can be flexible if weather is a problem. Luckily, the PNW is beautiful no matter the weather.

What to Expect During Your Family Session
I have a set small hike I do with most families at this spot. It’s a great way to use up energy and keep kiddos interested. We typically see lots of deer and wildlife too! There is an incredible view from the “top” of a paved path. The drive up to the meeting spot is windy but paved and in well condition. The visitors lodge burned down last year but there are porta potty’s available. There is limited cell reception.

What to Wear for Hurricane Ridge Family Photos
I LOVE using rust and yellow to contrast the background of the mountains. But any colors will do! Long dresses photograph so well but you can do jeans and sweaters or whatever your personal style is.

Is Hurricane Ridge Good for Young Kids?
This will completely depend on your kiddos. The only thing I make sure to mention to everyone is that it is really important to stay on the paved paths when we are walking around. The meadows can be fragile and see lots of visitors. As long as you feel confident that your kids will listen to instruction well, you will be fine! I have had kids of all ages have successful family sessions here!

Planning Your Own Family Photography Session
I have quite literally been coming to this area my entire life. My great grandfather homesteaded in Sequim 100 years ago and the land has been in our family ever since. The photo below is of my grandmother napping in the wildflowers near Hurricane Ridge. This annual trip we take to the peninsula is one I have been doing since I was born. I feel so lucky to be able to make it a work trip as well.
All that to say! I have so many recommendations for where to stay and what to do. Planning logistics is my specialty!
