Posing can be tricky when you’re just getting started with photography and you either love or struggle with smaller families! Single child families can be easy (less to keep track of) but also more difficult if you love variety. Here are a few examples of poses for single child families!
One on One
This is a great time to get a lot of interaction with just one parent at a time. Depending on the age of the child they may have a preference for one parent (it happens to everyone!) and you may need to get creative with games and movement to keep them distracted. Chasing them around, looking for cool rocks, pretending to be horsey, throwing up in the air, keeping them moving is key!
Movement
Yup, more movement. You will get plenty of stagnant poses and won’t need to stay still for very long. Don’t forget to move yourself though! Get up close for every pose and grab details.
Variety in landscape
I love to use the landscape to highlight the family and their connection. Pulling way back to capture the backdrop is a great way to round out the gallery.
Play with video!
This is a great time to grab some video clips. Either for behind the scenes materials or to give the family as a surprise. It’s easier than you think and takes practice more than anything.
