Things To Do in Boise in the Spring (Family Friendly + Local Favorites)

Spring in Boise is truly ELITE! As someone who grew up here and then spent about 20 years living in just about every other region (milspouse life) I can say that with much authority. Between the wildflowers within walking distance, perfect weather without bugs, and a plethora of things to do outside with kids, you really can’t beat it. Read more to see all my tips for things to do in Boise in the spring! (From a local).

Best Outdoor Activities in Boise (Spring) – It’s time to get outside after winter!

Hiking: Our family actually lives in Nampa but I am driving to the foothills OFTEN to hike and get the dog out of the house. My favorite spot is the Military Reserve. There are so many different trails and *kid friendly alert: there are several trails you can take with minimal elevation increase. (My older kids are NOT interested in hiking straight uphill no matter how good the view is thank you very much).

Greenbelt: The Boise greenbelt is such a gem. We for sure have our “go-to” route but you can easily switch it up every time. The key here is planning a stop in the middle or end with a payoff for kids. Examples: ice cream, playgrounds, river play area, “secret tree” (I’m going to make you come find me on IG and ask me via messages for this one), swimming in Quinn Pond, and more!

Nampa Greenbelt: this is called the Wilson Creek Trail and it’s kind of hidden!

MK Nature Center: This has been around since I was a kid! It is a free place to walk around and see fish in different life stages and habitats. Also don’t miss the inside portion with hands on stuff to do. FYI: dogs are not allowed around the outdoor portion of the park! (I always forget this).

Family or Motherhood photos! Fun fact, spring is IDEAL for family photos. The weather is mild, schedules are lighter, sunsets are earlier, and then you’re done for the year! Also the foothills are only green for a short amount of time in Boise!

The Boise zoo has a fantastic deal for $3 Thursdays through February.

Wildflowers! Don’t Miss Boise’s Wildflower Season.

Ya’ll. I don’t think people here realize what a privilege it is to have wildflowers as close as they are here. When we lived in Washington I would have to drive HOURS to get to locations with them. And they are RIGHT HERE (gestures wildly to the foothills). We also get several waves of them during the spring and early summer. Head here to read more about where to find them and when!

Spring Events and Markets – Local Events Families Love

Farmers markets: these vary in their starting dates but are worth keeping an eye on. There are two in the downtown Boise area, as well as Nampa, Meridian, and Eagle.

Victory Gardens has so many events in the spring and summer. Keep an eye on their social media for announcements.

Peaceful Belly: this is such an unknown gem in the Treasure Valley. They are out in Nampa so maybe go under the radar for that reason. This has been some of my favorite food in the area though. They have lots of farm to table events as well as baby lambs and plant sales.

AC Boise Soccer Games: Boise has a new professional soccer team! They had their first home game at the new stadium in April of ’26. We can’t wait for more!

Best Outdoor Patios

Boise has so many great outdoor patios to enjoy this amazing weather! Here are some of our favorites but please comment with some of your go-tos in case I’m missing any!

Fork: This is easiest because of it’s location but also is the most kid friendly!

Diablo and Sons: Close by and along the same outdoor walking mall is this great spot with some of the best food we’ve had in Boise as well. A’tavola is not to be missed! (I grew up with the owners and am a little biased) but the food is fantastic and they have a great patio and some shopping! Amano in Caldwell is worth the trip out there! They have a newer space and the patio area is really beautiful.
